Leaders and organizations need to look at digital transformation as an enabler for a digital economy with no physical barriers on how and where productivity can be generated, thus, have an impact on human capital. Furthermore, digital transformation has a significant effect on leadership, culture, organizational structure and talent management, as mentioned by STRIMgroup’s study on effects of digital transformation on human capital.
Business transformation in our digital age transforms jobs rapidly. One obvious key challenge of digital transformation, is to provide training for individuals to obtain the skills needed for a job, that might not even have been created yet.
According to a publication by PwC on workforce reskilling, by 2020, many jobs will have been replaced by AI, which means that 1/3 of the core skills for most occupations will have changed by then. Because of the increased use of data and AI, many hybrid jobs will be created where workers need to combine rare combinations of skill sets. PwC put out clear new skills that will be required to maintain current roles or shift into new ones: Business and science skills, Human or soft skills and Technology skills.
