Reinvent yourself for the future

Video: WEF 2018 and Future Jobs

January 26, 2018 – This week, the future of Technology and Jobs has prominently been discussed at the WEF 2018 (World Economic Forum) in Davos.

The fear of losing a job to a machine is immense, but Israeli historian, tenured professor and author of the books “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” and “Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow” Yuval Noah Harari stressed, that the underlying cause of this fear isn’t about losing jobs to machines, but rather the anxiety of becoming irrelevant.

Technologies such as Biotech, AI or IoT are referred to as the future, and whether you like it or not, the future is already here, it is now!  We  mentioned in “Staffing For IoT  – The CIO of Everything” that companies will need to hire Software Developers, Engineers, Data Scientists, IT Architects and people with technology skills now, as , based on a study made by Gartner, 75% of the organizations will not be able to reach the full potential of IoT in the next 2 years.

And while there are notions of that technologies such as Biotech, AI or IoT is destroying jobs, the study made by Gartner, says that although 1.8 million jobs will be destroyed, 2.3 million more will be created by 2020.

A good example of this, is a company that generates many technology jobs by manufacturing products for end-to-end connectivity,   iBot Control Systems. The company was founded in 2011 building meta-products called connected processors using a combination of electronics, telecommunications, firmware and cloud capabilities to help makers, innovators and entrepreneurs create connected experiences for themselves and their customers/consumers.

Certainly, advancements in technology is disrupting the workforce, and for technologies such as AI to become an “enabler”, you need to develop the ability to reinvent yourself for the future, by acquiring skills that AI’s can’t. Only by developing a lifelong learning mindset can you ensure, you don’t fall behind.
